Nationwide — Civil rights activist Al Sharpton says wealthy and well-known African Americans have long been targets of federal investigations, suggesting that race and status make them easier to go after.
According to TMZ, Sharpton spoke on recent online buzz claiming that Sean “Diddy” Combs and Tyler Perry are being unfairly targeted because of their fame and race. He said this kind of scrutiny isn’t new and reflects a pattern that’s existed for generations.
Sharpton made it clear he isn’t calling for blind support. He believes that both men should be judged based on the facts. Still, he emphasized that their race adds extra attention from authorities and often shapes public perception.
Currently, Diddy is facing a federal criminal trial, and Perry was recently sued for sexual assault and harassment. Sharpton urged the public to examine the facts in both situations but also consider how racial bias plays a role in who gets investigated and how.
He stressed that while justice must be fair, history shows it hasn’t always been equal, especially for successful Black individuals.
